- I love life and have led a full one. After 27 years in the Royal Navy I became convinced of the futility of war and am now a Quaker pacifist. I have an 18 year old son just about to start a geology degree at univerity, and three daughters ranging in age from 20 to 43 years. I have a lovely granddaughter who is 20 years old. Sadly, I lost my elder son to a heart attack, aged 44, last Xmas Eve. He was out on his daily run when he collapsed and never regained consiousness.
